FORMS

  1. Power of Attorney
In order for a Customhouse Broker to represent any importer, there must be a signed, valid Customs Power
of Attorney on file with the broker. This form authorizes Customs Brokers to act on the behalf of the importer
with matters related to Customs and Customs business. The U.S. Customs Service can ask a broker at any time to produce this form and if the broker can't, well ... we won't go there. Instructions on how to complete the power of attorney and how and where to send it may  be found by clicking on any number on power of attorney.

  2. Customs Bond Application (For a Continuous Bond Only!)
Customs bonds are required by the U.S. Customs Service for goods cleared under a formal entry. The bonds protect the revenue of the U.S. Government in case there is an occurrence such as, an increase in duty, a penalty, or a demand for redelivery of the merchandise. It is a condition of the entry and basically assures the government that it will get whatever it is due. The bonds are backed by a surety. When the importer doesn't pay, the surety steps in. Then, the surety goes to the importer for breach of the bond and collects whatever is due from the importer. Late and non- payments to U.S. Customs also put the importer at risk of being put on the Local and/or National Sanction List. This means "Cash Only". It's no place you want to be. Instructions on how to complete the bond application and how and where to send it, and with what, may be found by clicking on any number on the bond application.

  5. APHIS Notice for Revised Enforcement of the Lacey Act

The two kinds of Customs bonds are a single transaction bond that is good for only one shipment  or a continuous bond that is good for all shipments cleared in a twelve month period. The bond value for single transaction bonds is usually the value of the merchandise plus any applicable duties and fees, but can also be required to cover three times the value of the merchandise when certain other factors come into play, i.e. FCC, TSCA, FDA and others as well. If you are just starting out and do not know what your next twelve months is going to bring, then single transaction bonds are the way to go, that is, if the value of your import shipment is not too high. See our fees to do the math and determine any cost savings. Please allow at least  three weeks to get a continuous bond processed and on file with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
