At twenty-five, David Bailey knew what he wanted to do for a living. This knowledge came from the study of many different occupations. Being interested in international commerce from having traveled the world, the business of a Customs Broker fit in with his preferences in life. Mr. Bailey started in March of 1978 as a runner in the import department of a large, privately-owned freight forwarder. At the same time, Mr. Bailey studied the Customs Tariff and Regulations in preparation for taking the "Broker's Test" in order to obtain his own license. He passed the test in 1982. Mr. Bailey opened his own sole proprietorship in 1986.
Starting a new business is never easy, but Mr. Bailey worked hard trying always to look out for the best interest of his customers. After the first year, Mr. Bailey met the soon-to-be Mrs. Darlene Bailey, who, from the beginning, took an interest in the business and began helping in the office. Now, Mr. Bailey is helping her. But the Baileys have made a life together of really helping new and old importers navigate through the murky waters of paying duties, understanding customs regulations, and surviving examinations.
As a small independent business, the Baileys believe if their importer's business does well, then theirs will too. It is hard for anyone to know the first time if they will be happy with any service provider, but David and Darlene try to answer people's questions when asked or give options for finding the information from other sources, i.e.. The U.S. Customs Service or other government agency.
